Taraba State Government has called on the state’s chapter of the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, to suspend its strike action as the state government has begun addressing their demands.

The resident doctors in the state had commenced an indefinite strike in protest against poor welfare and other issues affecting medical output.

The representatives of the Taraba State Chapter of the NARD said the industrial action is the last option for its members.

The Chairman of the body of doctors, Gabriel Ahmed, said the strike action is due to the failure of the government to honour its agreement to address its demands after they called off industrial action in September.

The demands of the doctors include Covid-19 induced welfare and Personal Protective Equipment, additional manpower, and the domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act of 2017, among others.

However, Taraba State’s Commissioner for Information, Danjuma Adamu, wants the striking doctors to return to work, as some of their demands are already in the pipeline, while others will be met soon.

He hinted that they need to remain at their duty posts, as the fight against the second wave of Covid-19 continues.

The Taraba State Government assured that it will meet other demands of the doctors, as soon as possible.
