Curtailing the spread of coronavirus from person to animal and developing a roadmap that would act as a guide for the Veterinary Council Governing Board took centre stage at the 2020 Veterinary Council Retreat in Abuja.

Speaking at the retreat, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono, who pledged the government’s continuous support for the Council, urged animal farmers to ensure compliance with the animal’s protocol to Covid-19 disease.

Reports have it that the virus that causes COVID-19 disease can spread from people to animals and vice versa. In realisation of this, the Council earlier in the year, partnered with relevant stakeholders and developed a world-class COVID-19 protocol in animals.

With the recent surge in new cases, the Council said it is time to take the protocol measures across the 36 states and the FCT.

On her part, the President of the Board, Aishatu Baju, explained the issues bothering the Council, especially the need for the development of a roadmap for the new Veterinary Council Governing Board.

The retreat with the theme: setting the Agenda for a better council: Rethinking the veterinary profession in Nigeria was organized to chart a new course for the board and the Veterinary Council in Nigeria.
