philip shuaib criticizes 2023 elections

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, says it is premature for politicians to be talking about the 2023 presidential election when the country is faced with numerous challenges that require urgent attention.

He made the statement at the fifteenth edition of the annual meeting usually organised by the Deputy Governor for practising journalists in Edo State.

It was birthed when an act of diligence and commitment from a journalist saved him from a grim fate when he was imprisoned. Appreciative of that gesture, the Deputy Governor commended the reporters for being an effective watchdog of the society.

He, however, called on them to ensure that they call a spade a spade no matter the pressure. Shaibu appeared not to have forgotten the intrigues that surrounded the re-election bid of Governor Godwin Obaseki and takes a swipe at those outside the state he believes stood against it.

He feels that it is rather premature to be talking about who will be the president in 2023 when there are a myriad of challenges facing the nation that needs to be tackled urgently.

The Deputy Governor called on Nigerians to join hands with those in Government to move the country forward.
