Members of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, nationwide have demanded the appointment of a substantive head in the Niger Delta Development Commission and the Presidential Amnesty Programme to have a sustainable structure to drive the development trajectory for the people of the Niger Delta.

At a peaceful demonstration on Monday along the East-west road, the IYC amongst other demands also added that it has lost confidence in the ongoing forensic auditing in the NDDC.

The Mbiam axis of the Trans-niger delta East-West road has been the flashpoint of demonstrations by youths of the Niger Delta Region.

Members of the Ijaw Youth Council on early hours of Monday took to the road to make clear their positions on appointments into the Niger Delta Development Commission as well as the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The protest lasted for hours and in turn disrupted vehicular movement with goods and services at a halt. The IYC noted that the move is expected to send strong signals to the federal government, oil companies and other stakeholders to swing into action and do the needful for the development of the region.

Members of the IYC have also vowed that there will more protests in the coming days if the federal government pay lip service to their demands.
