The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Matters, Ita Enang, says effective utilization of the 13 per cent oil derivation to producing communities will guarantee the return of oil companies to the Niger Delta region.
Enang stated this while speaking at the fourth meeting of the National Council on Niger Delta in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, on Saturday.
The 13 per cent oil derivation fund is one amongst several acts of Parliament initiated to douse the tensions, pipeline vandalism, militancy, and agitations among oil-producing people of the Niger Delta region.
Enang said non-application of the 13 per cent derivation funds on producing communities resulted in the relocation of oil companies from the region.
He said governors of oil-producing states should change their approach in tackling development challenges in the Niger Delta Region.
The Special Adviser to President Buhari on Niger Delta Matters also called on youths of the region to stop seeing oil companies as charity organizations but as business organizations pursuing profits.
