Rights advocates have called for an overhaul of cultural and societal norms, which enables the abuse and violation of women’s right to fester in society.
While speaking with reporters during the sixth Network Conference of Sexual Assault Referral Centres, SARCs, in Abuja, they said that when victims intend to speak out, some cultures deny them the right to do so, hence the ‘culture of silence’s, which needs to be broken.
They urged traditional leaders to own the process of upholding the rights of women not to be seen as inferior as against their male counterparts.
