Lawmakers of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly given consideration to the State’s Year 2020 Appropriation Bill presented by the executive arm of government tagged ‘Budget of Growth‘.
Deliberating on the fiscal document during plenary, presided over by Speaker, Abraham Ngobere in Yenagoa, the legislators expressed satisfaction with the budgetary allocations to various sectors, noting it is what was needed to fast-track true infrastructure and economic development in the State.
On the 26th of November, 2020, the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri presented a 290 billion Naira budget to lawmakers of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly for the 2021 fiscal year.
Two weeks later, after a detailed study, the Appropriation document is again on the floor of the House for the lawmakers to deliberate upon, having been read for the second time.
Contributing on the discussions during the debate, most of the legislators expressed delight that the budget would capture key sectors that needed to be empowered after a not for year 2020, which had been bedeviled by the Covid 19 pandemic, endsars protests and fall in oil prices.
After further discussions, the bill was again handed to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for more study as well as final vetting.
