A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced a 45 year old Muhammad Adamu to 15 years imprisonment for human trafficking .

The trial judge Justice Obiorah Egwaatu averred that sections 26 and 29 of the trafficking in person ( prohibition) act 2015 made the offense punishable with minimum of sentence of 5 years.

The accused person Muhammad Adamu was arraigned before the federal high court Kano on 23rd of July 2020 , where he pleaded guilty of the 3 counts charges levelled againts him by national agency for the prohibition in trafficking in persons NAPTIP.

Muhammad Adamu trafficked 2 females and a male all residents of Duala in Cameroon, who were promised that they will be moved to Algeria and Libya.

The trial judge while sentencing Muhammad Adamu invoked sections 26 and 29 of trafficking in person prohibition act 2015 and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment.

Counsel to the defendant Fatima aliyu said she is not happy with the judgement.

Zonal commander of the national agency for the prohibition of trafficking in person NATIP Desmond Garba said he is excited with the judgement.

The defendant has been in the custody of correctional service since his arrest.
