Namibia has announced plans to auction off 170 of its elephants due to drought and increased population of the species.
Sometimes last year, Namibia considered allowing more trophy hunting and exporting live animals on grounds that the generated funds will help protect the species
The Ministry of Environment Forestry and Tourism disclosed that the animals will only be sold to those who meet the specified criteria which includes quarantine facilities and a game-proof fence certificate.
Interested buyers have been given a deadline of January 29, 2021, to make an offer. The sale of the elephants and buffaloes and other animals in the wild is supposed to generate close to $1.1 million.
