Cyclone GATI in Somalia leaves destruction in its Wake

After close to eight months of no rainfall, Tropical Storm GATI has left nothing but destruction in its wake including human lives, livestock and properties.

The Xaafuun community, Hordio and Ashira communities were fully hit by the effect of the storm

Moving at 70mph in only 12 hours with 105 mph winds, the Cyclone has been classified as a Category 2 storm as of date and the strongest ever.

The Cyclone poured as much as 2 years worth of rainfall on the desert region.

8 people have been confirmed dead, while several others have been displaced. the United Nations report that close to 180,000 people including farmers, traders and even refugees.

Humanitarian agencies have reported experiencing challenges in reaching those affected as the cyclone destroyed all the road networks.
