On Monday, Three Hong Kong protesters including politicians and activist, Joshua Wong were taken into custody after pleading guilty to instigating a rally during the previous year democracy protest, increasing repression against Beijing’s critics. In 2019, Hong Kong was filled with violent democracy rallies, which lasted for seven months straight.

Local authorities and Beijing’s critics have spurned the demands of the people for a free election, and have stalked democracy activists with criminal cases and abducting a new national security law. Joshua Wong was detained alongside fellow protesters Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam due to the rally they staged last summer outside Hong Kong police headquarters.

Wong told reporters that   ‘They have zero regrets, as they would continue to fight for freedom and now is not the time to surrender ‘. Inside the Court, Wong pleaded guilty to instigating and orchestrating an illegal rally.

Chow admitted to instigating and joining the rally, while Lam admitted to incitement. All three were detained and are awaiting sentencing scheduled for  December 2, 2020. meaning a jail term is guaranteed.

The maximum sentence would be three years tops.  As he was being carted away by the police, he shouted ‘Everyone hang on, I know it’s tougher for you out there, but add oil’. Add oil is said to be a word of encouragement and support in Cantonese.
