Former French President, Nicholas Sarkozy who served as president between 2007 and 2012 will today appear in court to defend himself against charges of peddling, illicit campaign funding and corruption. This comes after several efforts to have those charges nullified or dropped according to reports.

Based on reports, The former President’s lawyer, Thierry Herzog tried to bribe a senior magistrate in exchange for damning information against the now former President in exchange for a luscious job on the Cote d’Azur.

According to investigations from French Detectives, Sarkozy received the sum of €50 million in donation from Gaddafi to fund his elections at the time that was undeclared. The former president may see up to 10 years in jail time if he is convicted.

This is the first time ever a French president will appear in court based on corruption charges. The former president has, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges and has instead diverted attention to the legal system and citing political justice.
