ASUP, SSANIP proceed on warning Strike

Academic and Non-Academic activities at the Cross River State College of Health, Technology Calabar were on Monday paralysed as two Unions From the Health Institution proceed on a warning strike over the suspension of the Consolidated Polytechnic and Colleges of Education  Academic Salary Structure by the state government.

The Institution Chairmen of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Comrade Bright Ewona and that of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) Effiong Archibong said the warning Strike according to the unions will lead to the full-scale industrial action if government fail to address their issues within one week.

The Unions said all avenues, including the expiration of the 14 days ultimatum have been exhausted before the strike commences. On his part, the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Ben Ukpebi said the two unions followed the Labour law before they proceed on the strike, calling on the state government to see to their demands.

The Unions lamented that the suspension of the salary structure has caused hardship to workers and their families more than one year after it was implemented.
