Running into the third week since Joe Biden has been declared victorious in the 2020 United States Presidential Elections, the incumbent, Donald Trump has shown no signs of relinquishing power.
President, Barrack Obama, who took the opportunity to advise Trump to handover in a 60 minutes interview at the Smithsonian building, where portraits of past Presidents remained also opined that the delay in handover could weaken the nation’s authority as the world watched on.
Obama maintained that the position of the President was a Public Service one and as such, personal interests should be cast aside and the will of the people upheld.
Trump despite losing by a larger margin than Hilary Clinton in both Electoral and Popular votes has claimed without proof that there was voter fraud amongst other hefty allegations. His many attempts to prove his point have taken a nose-dive as Georgia’s votes that were recounted based on the President’s request came back with Biden still in the lead.
His campaign to invalidate millions of votes in Pennsylvania was dismissed by a Federal Judge, Matthew Braun who dismissed them on grounds that the Court had not the power to violate the Constitution and further added that the results will be certified by Monday.
Read his Statement in part below:
“Plaintiffs ask this Court to disenfranchise almost seven million voters. This Court has been unable to find any case in which a plaintiff has sought such a drastic remedy in the contest of an election, in terms of the sheer volume of votes asked to be invalidated.”
“The answer to invalidated ballots is not to invalidate millions more,”
Donald Trump has also invited Michigan Republican Lawmakers to visit with him at the White House in a bid to nullify Biden’s win in that state as well but to no avail.
Based on the sitting President’s actions, analysts suspect that Trump’s legal team is doing all it can to delay the ratification of votes in several key states to allow Republican-led State legislature intervene thus discounting the wishes of millions of voters, should they have to result to the Electoral College method which allows for States to vote for or against the two candidates, thus he is banking on the fact that there are more Republican-led states than Democrats.
HIs actions are casting a lot of doubt on the electoral process and Trump remains the first to ever wield such power in such an unfashionable manner in a bid to hold on to his seat as President seeing how there is a clear winning streak for Joe Biden and as such, his actions are an obvious but failing attempt to hold on to power, or so it appears.
