As a replacement for Abdelmalek Droukdel who was killed in June by some French forces, The Al-Qaeda in North Africa has chosen a new leader – Abu Obaida Yusuf al-Annabi.
The successor who has been on the United States terrorist list since 2015 has been visible and active with the activities of the Al-Qaeda and in 2013 demanded that muslims retaliate over France’s involvement in Mali.
Yusuf al-Annabi, from Algeria will now be leading the Al-Qaeda movement which pledged allegiance to Osama bin Laden in 2007 after being in existence for close to thirty years.
The group has also claimd responsibility for it’s numerous attacks on troops and civilians in the Sahel region. The Sahel spreads across Senegal, Mauritania, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Eritrea.
