The management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has informed filmmakers to seek proper approval from management before using the NYSC uniform in their movies.
Christian Oru, NYSC Assistant Director of Legal Services, announced this during a conference between the National Board of Film and Video Censors, NFVCB, and stakeholders in the creative industry in Lagos, Nigeria.
Mr. Oru revealed that using the NYSC uniform in movies without approval is illegal and it would no longer be tolerated.
Filmmakers would have to submit an application letter to the NYSC management stating what the uniform would be used for before it can be shown in movies.
He further said that the movie script would have to be submitted beforehand, to observe how the NYSC would be portrayed in the movie.
Mr. Oru stated that the NYSC is open to movie producers using the uniform in movies, as it is a form of advertising, but a token generated from the movie production would have to be given, as a lot of money is spent on these uniforms, and this is known as administrative charges.
