Nigeria has begun preparations ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games in Lagos and Abuja.
In a statement, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development said arrangements have been made to accommodate athletes and officials ahead of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games which was slated for this year but were postponed following the Coronavirus outbreak.
According to Dr. Simon Ebhojaiye, the ministry’s Director, Elite Athletes, and Competitions, the ministry is ready to bring back athletes to their individual sports, having been on hold as a result of the pandemic.
Ebhojaiye said the resumption of local camping at the sports facilities, is to enable athletes who have already qualified to have early preparations.

He said taekwondo, rowing, and para-rowing, as well as canoeing and para-canoeing athletes, will camp in Abuja, while Powerlifting athletes will be camped in Lagos.
However, middle and long-distance runners will camp in Pankshin, Plateau State.
