A 30-year-old nurse, Lucy Letby was charged on Wednesday for the murder of 8 babies and attempted murder of another 10, the police in Chester revealed. On Tuesday, the nurse identified as Lucy Letby was charged with the crimes once the prosecutor gave the go-ahead. the police added.
Letby was charged for the babies’ death and the non-fatal collapses which occurred in Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 to June 2016. Letby is still in custody as she awaits her first appearance before the Warrington Magistrate scheduled for Thursday.
She was initially arrested in both 2018 and 2019 as part of an investigation which began in 2017. Both the families of the victims and the nurse Letby attended the proceedings remotely.
She was arrested previously but was released without a charge in 2018 and 2019. The charges are based on a three-year investigation over the huge amount of infant deaths recorded at Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit.
Letby has now remanded in custody after Thursday’s hearing.
