Military Officer caught assaulting Civilian on Camera for Overtaking

An unidentified military officer has been caught on camera assaulting a driver for allegedly overtaking his car. The incident, which happened on Tuesday, November 10, along Abuja-Kaduna road, North-central Nigeria, was captured in a video and shared on Twitter, by a sports journalist identified as Dare Kuti.

Mr. Kuti told reporters that he witnessed the incident, as his colleague was in the vehicle with the victim when it happened. The video showed the soldier forcefully opening the vehicle as he continuously hit it, driver.

The victim was also heard screaming in pain as he received the beatings. The soldier further jumped into the front seat as he continued to deliver punches to the frightened victim. Some eyewitnesses were seen pleading with the soldier, while others tried to help the victim who was on the ground, withering in pain.

The soldier then got into his car and left the scene. The driver, Mr. Mustapha, explained that he overtook the military officer when the latter drove roughly from a petrol station into the road and when they got to a bad road, the officer blocked his vehicle with his car and came down to physically assault him.

Attempt to reach the spokesperson of the Nigerian Army spokesman, Sagir Musa has been unsuccessful. A few days back, a video showed soldiers physically assaulting a woman in Ibadan.
