Court arraigns 5 member kidnapping Syndicate in Kano

The Attorney-General of Kano State has on Friday arraigned before the state High Court seven suspects accused of abducting Kano children to the Eastern part Nigeria to serve as domestic house help.

The syndicate consisting of five females and two males were arraigned 38-count charges of kidnapping and illegal abduction of the children.

A mild drama first happened in the courtroom before the arraignment when one of the defendants named Obere ogbono said she doesn’t understand English and has no lawyer. The court had to step down for 30 minutes to get an interpreter for her.

The first defendant, Paul Oneh, pleaded guilty to all the 38-count charges levelled against him which are punishable under section 97,273, and 277 of the penal code.

However, other five defendants pleaded not guilty.

Counsel to the 6th defendant, Wilson Oranize, asked the court to discharge his client, Monica Oracha, as her name has not been mentioned while reading the charges to the defendant.

The Kano State Attorney-General said it is a good development for the police and 0and Kano State as the first defendant pleaded guilty.

Justice Zuwaira Yusuf adjourned the case till September 27 for sentencing the first defendant and continuation of hearing for the remaining six defendants.
