The Chairman South-South Governors Forum, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has given a hint that the meeting between the presidential delegation and leaders of the zone will centre on restructuring.

The Delta State Governor, who gave this hint at Government House, Asaba, the state capital, during the question and answer session of the quarterly interaction with journalists in the state, said there is need to restructure Nigeria as the present law and constitution is discriminatory.

Governor Okowa was reacting to a question on the rationale for northern states to have control of mineral deposits in their zone with emphasis on Zamfara State while such is not applicable to the South-South zone.

He said this time around, South-South governors are working together to see that such anomalies in the Nigerian law and Constitution is corrected.

Governor Okowa explained that there is not much ado about the 13 per cent derivation being paid to zone considering its topography security challenges one of the attendant effects of oil-producing areas.

He lamented that over the years, South-South zone has been short-changed as lots of money are being owed the zone on derivation while the efforts he said are being made to ensure that the federal government pays to enable the governors to do more for the host communities.

The Governor further informed that the state would float its security outfit codenamed delta hawks before the yuletide sets in.
