The Nigerian House of Representatives says the capital component of the 2020 budget for the Nigerian Army remains under-funded, despite growing security concerns.

The Chairman, House Committee on the Army, Namdas Abdulrazak, said the Committee is satisfied with the conditions at the Army barracks but would back for more funding.

The comments are coming while the committee was on oversight function of Army formations in the country. It proposes for more involvement of the police in the crisis-prone areas of the country.

With agitations for a better trained and equipped police force that understands human rights, the House of Representatives believes it is time for the police to take over security from the army of the various hotspots in the country.

Speaking during a courtesy call to the Gombe State Deputy Governor, Mannasah Jatau, the House Committee on the Army, said the military is underfunded, despite the growing security challenges in the country.

One thing on the mind of the Committee is to see improved conditions of the army, while it joins in call for more reforms in the country’s security architecture.
