In furtherance of the nationwide directives to roll-out metres to Nigerians, the federal government has provided funding for Electricity distribution companies to close the metering gap through the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).

This information was availed by the MD of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Ernest Mupwaya who claims this mass metering would not only provide jobs but create transparency in electricity metering and replace all defective metres.

It is believed that the metres will be installed between now and December at no cost to the customers through the Abuja, Eko, Kano, Kaduna and Ikeja Distribution companies.

The Eko DisCo CEO and MD, Adeoye Fadebiyi noted that the metres will be distributed over the next 12 – 18 months. In addition, the metre distribution will be monitored by the Lagos State government representatives, the Senate Committee and the House of Representatives on power as well as the Organised Labour and Civil Society Organisations
