American actor and producer, Johnny Depp, has lost the libel case against Sun Newspaper due to an article who tagged him as a ‘Wife Beater’.

Depp sued the newspaper over an article that claimed the movie star assaulted his ex-wife, Amber Heard, which he denied.

But Sun insisted that the article was accurate.

Judge, Justice Nicol, announced that Sun Newspaper proved that the article was substantially true.

A spokesman for Sun newspaper praised Amber Heard for being courageous. The trial took place in June and lasted for 16-days at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

Johnny Depp’s case was put against the NGN of Sun newspaper and the newspaper executive editor, Dan Wootton, over the article that was published on the Sun website on May 27, 2018.

The article headline read: “Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?”

Evidence was acquired from Depp and ex-wife, Heard, with family, friends, and previous and past employers.

Depp’s lawyer, David Sherborne, revealed that his client case was mainly about clearing his name. But the lawyer defending Sun publisher, Sasha Wass QC, replied saying there is no doubt Depp constantly assaults his wife and the term wife-beater is absolutely true.
