Governor Okowa Presents Budget to Delta Assembly

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has presented a budget proposal of N378, 484,397, 889 to the state lawmakers for the 2021 fiscal year, a 34.05% increase of the revised budget of last year.

Governor Okowa, during the presentation of the budget proposal, christened “Budget of Recovery” before the State House of Assembly members ably presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, said the year 2021 budget proposal with the recurrent expenditure of 171.230.826.56 billion Naira representing 45.24% of the entire budget and capital budget of 207.253.571.321 billion Naira which translates to 54.76%, was meant to align with the realities of the time most especially as the impact of the covid-19 is gradually easing.

The breakdown of the entire budget showed that Works, just like that of last year, toppled all other sectors with the sum of 66.659.711.358 billion Naira allotted to it followed by education with 23.553.836.163 billion Naira, agriculture 2,049.462.663 billion Naira, water 1.832.971.962 billion Naira, and youth development 1.249.196.846 billion Naira.

Describing the COVID-19 pandemic as a wake-up call to all and sundry, Governor Okowa said with the lessons learnt, the budget also made provision for proffering financial options for government businesses such that the state can position itself in event of another sharp downturn happens

Speaker Rt Hon. Oborevwori assured of the House continued support to the state government through the passage of people-oriented and development-driven legislation.

He promised that the House will painstakingly examine the budget with a view to transforming it for the benefit of the generality of the people.
