A day after the COVID-19 palliatives warehouse in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, was allegedly attacked by hoodlums, an attempt has been made on another warehouse holding food materials around the Zone 8 area of the city this Monday morning.
The situation is already creating heightened tension in the state capital as a combined team of security operatives are said to be desperately trying to keep the crowds at bay
One person has reportedly been shot, and has been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The victim’s identity has been confirmed by the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, as Emmanuel Adeyemi, a reporter with the Sun Newspaper.
Heavy security personnel made up of police and soldiers were seen around the state Revenue House and other public facilities to prevent looting.
An eyewitness said that private shop owners have sealed their businesses as residents move around in fear.
