The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, has opted for an immediate suspension of the End Insecurity Now protests in Northern Nigeria, for possible fear of being hijacked by hoodlums not to worsen the security situation in the region.

The coalition while addressing a news conference in Kaduna, said it does not want attention to be diverted from its objective of urging the government to take firm and immediate steps to address the security concerns in the North.

The last couple of weeks has seen sparks of accumulated anger vented by youths in the form of protests across the nation.

The northern version of the protests is focused on securing the region from incessant bandit attacks, insurgency, kidnappings among other security challenges rocking the region.

Disturbed by the dimension the EndSARS protests have assumed, the Coalition of Northern Groups is calling off its EndINSECURITY protests, to prevent it from being hijacked, like the EndSARS protests.

The aftermath of what began as a peaceful protest according to the coalition is the height of total disregard for the value of life.

The coalition says, Nigeria must deepen her democratic mechanism as well as protect citizens’ rights to peaceful protests, but condemned all forms of manipulation that could cause the breakdown of law and order during protests.
