Ayade swears-in New Acting Chief Judge, Apologises To Lawyers

Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, on Monday, swore in Justice Eyo Effiom Ita, as the state’s new acting Chief Judge.

Ayade, who said the swearing-in was in keeping with “the obligations and provisions of the constitution, apologized to the people of the state and lawyers for the delay in the appointment of a new chief judge.

The Governor said his administration was a law-abiding one that believes in the freedom of the judiciary and believes that the National Judicial Council, NJC, is a watchdog that ensures that the judiciary is absolutely free.

In his remarks, the new Acting Chief Judge pledged to work in synergy with the other arms of government to ensure the growth of the state.

Justice Ita is the third to be sworn in as the Acting Chief Judge of Cross River State in the last 11 months after the last substantive Chief Judge of the State, Justice Micheal Edem, retired.
