A former Speaker of Jigawa State House of Assembly, Illiyasu Dundubus, is dead.
The state Assembly’s spokesperson, Babangida Hadejia, said he had died on Wednesday, seeking medical attention in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Hadejia explained that the ex-Speaker served between 2000-2003 during the regime of former Governor Saminu Turaki.
Dundubus was described as a strong lawmaker, who was dedicated his time to gaining independence for the legislative arm.
He further stated that the current Speaker and the staff of the Assembly were in shock when they discovered the news of his death, but they mourn with the family and pray Allah grants him eternal rest and jannatul firdaus.
Nigerian politician, Danladi Sankara, also paid his condolences as he described the politician’s death as a loss to democracy and the independent legislature in Jigawa State.
The late Speaker will be remembered for the 24-hour ultimatum he issued to the former Governor, Turaki, to either return to the state or face impeachment concerning a prolonged vacation.
The Governor adhered to the warning as he returned to the state before the ultimatum passed.
