The 2019 rugby world cup champions, South Africa, has been given a 48-hour deadline as they delay their departure to Australia for the 2020 Rugby Championship, as a result of the global pandemic.

The team, who has not played a game since defeating England in the World Cup final in Japan last November, was due to travel to Australia this weekend before taking on Argentina on November 7 in Brisbane, in their opening fixture.

In a statement, tournament organizer, Sanzaar, said the world champions have 48 hours to agree to participation.

The championship, which will run for six weeks, begins on October 31.

The organizers also said that all traveling participants will quarantine for two weeks upon arrival.
