Nine members of the Edo State House of Assembly have removed Frank Okiye as Speaker.

His impeachment on Monday followed a motion moved by Henry Okhuarobo representing Ikpoba Okha Constituency and seconded by Emmanuel Okoduwa representing Esan North East.

The Edo State House of Assembly has been embroiled in crisis since its inauguration on June 17, 2019.

This has resulted in 10 members led by Frank Okiye piloting the affairs of the house for over one year.

The crisis heightened with the removal of the Speaker Frank Okiye by nine members over alleged misappropriation of funds.

A first-term lawmaker, Marcus Onobun representing Esan West, takes the seat as the new Speaker.

Okiye’s removal from office comes barely one month to the second term inauguration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
