Three Bayern Munich players were recipients of four UEFA player awards yesterday.

Manuel Neuer won goalkeeper of the season, Joshua Kimmich won defender of the season, while Robert Lewandowski was the recipient of the forward and men’s player of the year award.

All three players were deserving of their awards after an outstanding run to the final. One of the highlights on their way to the final was the 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona.

However, there was a chance of Bayern not qualifying for the knockout stages. The arrival of Hansi Flick changed their fortunes for the best.

The 55-year-old has won five trophies in 10 months at the helm. Also, he has only lost four matches. He was awarded the UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year award.

Other recipients of awards last night included Kevin De Bruyne who won the midfielder of the season award and Didier Drogba who was recognised for his unique accomplishments off the field.

The former Chelsea striker was awarded the 2020 UEFA President’s Award.
