French Open: Victoria Azarenka suffers shock defeat in Second Round

Former World Number One and 2020 US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka has suffered a shock defeat by world number 161 Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the second round of the French Open.

10th seeded Victoria Azarenka struggled on the clay against Schmiedlova, as she lost in two straight sets 6-2 6-2.

Despite showing some weather concerns, Azarenka managed to secure the first round with Danka Kovinic. Speaking to the match supervisor, the 2020 U.S Open runner-up who entered court Suzanne Lenglen wearing a thick pink puffer jacket complained about the weather conditions and said that she is used to hot weather, and not the weather conditions in France.

Her opponent, Danka Kovinic walked off the court after play was suspended following Azarenka’s complaints. The women, however, returned to court after a 50 minutes delay. Azarenka quickly broke Kovinic’s serve before claiming her victory.

The 26-year-old Slovak, who defeated Venus Williams in the opening round will now play Nadia Podoroska in the third round on Friday.
