F1: Morbidelli claims first-ever Moto GP in Italy

Franco Morbidelli went home victorious, as he claimed his first MotoGP on Sunday in San Marino in Italy. The Italian becomes the latest rider to win in their first Grand Prix in six races this year.

His countryman Andrea Dovizioso took the championship lead, finishing seventh ahead of France’s Fabio Quartararo in the standings.

The 25-year-old who led the race on his home circuit claimed his first race in motorcycling’s prestigious class. It became the first race to be held with spectators since the coronavirus outbreak, with more than 9 000 people.

Crowd favourite, Valentino Rossi was overtaken by Spaniard Joan Mir who finished third on the final lap on home ground. as he failed to claim his 200th MotoGP podium finish.
