Andy Murray, Britain’s former world number one has received a free entry into the men’s main draw of the Roland Garros.

Last month the 33-year-old who also received a wild card for the just-concluded US Open, reached the second round, losing to Canadian 15th seed Felix Auger-Allassime.

Murray last appeared at the clay-court in 2017, where he lost in a marathon five-set last-four encounter to Stan Wawrinka.

It has also been confirmed that seven other players have received a free pass into the main draw of the clay-court event, including 2020 US Open quarter-finalist and Bulgarian 33-year-old Tsvetana Pironkova and Canadian 26-year-old Eugenie Bouchard.

Last week, world number one and 2019 French Open champion Ashleigh Barty withdrew from the tournament due to health concerns and a lack of preparation.

The French Open, the second grand slam event of the year, which was originally scheduled to start in May, was pushed forward due to the global pandemic.

The French Open organizers announced last week that 11,000 spectators per day will be allowed at the event.
