Super Eagles Midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo has joined Turkish Giants Galatasary on loan for the 2020/21 season. This will be Etebo’s second loan spell as a Stoke City player. He had an impressive stint with Spanish outfit Getafe during the second half of the 2019/20 season.

After a string of impressive performances at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in France, Stoke City signed Etebo for £6.4 million from Portuguese side Feirense. The former Warri Wolves midfielder had an impressive season despite Stoke finishing in a disappointing 16th place.

His 2019/20 season started late. He had an extended holiday due to his participation in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. However, Stoke suffered from Etebo’s absence as they struggled at the start of the season.

Nathan Jones was made the scapegoat of Stoke’s dismal start and got replaced by former Northern Ireland coach, Michael O’Neill. The former Newcastle player stated that he was not pleased with Etebo’s attitude during training and exiled him from the squad.

The energetic box to box midfielder had an unimpressive spell at Getafe. He was only able to muster 11 appearances and scored one goal. He spent most of his time on the side-line due to several injuries.

The move to Galatasary is an opportunity for Etebo to get his career back on track. If he can establish himself in the first team, he will then have a chance to get back into the Super Eagles set up.
