US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. he expressed his gratitude, through several tweets and retweets.
In an interview with AFP, a Norwegian member of parliament, Christian Gjedde, said he nominated Trump for his“unique and historic agreement between Israel and the UAE — an agreement that, we hope, can be extended to other Arab countries so that we can have lasting peace in the Middle East.”
The news comes as a shock to many because the United States President has hitherto not taken a stand to fight the injustice within his own jurisdiction.
The United States has in recent times come under scrutiny over the heightened incarceration of people of African descent and the #BlackLivesMatter movement is still very much germane in the hearts of many Americans.
Not only that, trade tensions have increased across the globe with the US-China tensions being the most prominent, that with Canada, Zimbabwe amongst others.
Several protests have been held while athletes have shown solidarity by taking a stand for Black lives, the most recent being Naomi Osaka who has been wearing masks honouring several blacks who have lost their lives with no justification
