It has been reported that 23 grand slam singles title and three-time French Open champion Serena Williams is yet to decide whether or not she will take part in the Rolland Garros later this month in Paris, after the French Open organisers announced players would not be allowed to stay in private accommodation, and a number of fans will be allowed in the stadium.
The 38-year-old has a history of lung problems and is said to be concerned by the decision to allow fans into the event, following the French Tennis Federation (FFT) announcement on Monday.
In a statement, the 38-year-old said she was hoping to stay at her own apartment in Paris and says the French organisers are doing everything they can.
She further said she will make her decision in due time, as it will be taken one day at a time. After the FFT’s announcement, Ashleigh Barty, last year’s champion and world number one confirmed that she will not take part in the tourney, as a result of the pandemic.
The Australian who also pulled out of the US Open in New York said she is disappointed she will not compete, as the health and wellbeing of her family and team will always be her priority.
Since the pandemic struck Europe, France has recorded more than 300,000 Covid-19 cases, with more than 30,700 deaths.
