Electricity workers in Protest to demand full payment of arrears

In order to arrest market collapse or instability in the power sector, the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, has called on the Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, to address the recent minimum orders issued by Discos.

The Union wants the regulator, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Council, NERC, to guarantee timely and full payment by first- line charge principle as outlined by labour laws as against what obtains now.

The Association said the potential negative impact of refusal to pay the paltry staff salaries as at when due is better imagined.

To elicit higher productivity, the Union wants the NERC to reconsider the recent minimum remittance orders issued to DisCos and the minimum percentage of NBET bill, without consideration for staff salary, who collect the revenues.
