US Open: Serena Williams to face old foe, Sloane Stephens tomorrow

Six-time US Open champion Serena Williams overcame stiff competition, as she progressed to the third round of the US Open defeating Russian and world number 117 Margarita Gasparyan in two sets 6-2 6-4 under the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The 23 grand slam champion broke another record in the open era with a 103rd singles win at Flushing Meadows.

After surpassing Chris Evert’s Open-era record of 101 earlier in the opening round as she seeks to equal Australian great Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles title.

38-year-old Williams who last won the US Open in 2014 will now face old foe and compatriot Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open champion in the third round, on Saturday, September 5th.
