Six-time US Open champion Serena Williams overcame stiff competition, as she progressed to the third round of the US Open defeating Russian and world number 117 Margarita Gasparyan in two sets 6-2 6-4 under the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
The 23 grand slam champion broke another record in the open era with a 103rd singles win at Flushing Meadows.
