Sumit Nagal becomes first Indian to win a Grand Slam

India’s top-ranked singles player Sumit Nagal and the only Indian in the singles main draw in New York made it to the second round of the US Open.

On Tuesday, as he defeated Bradley Klahn in four sets, becoming the first Indian professional player in seven years to win a main draw match at a Grand Slam event, after Somdev Devvarman at the US Open in 2013.

The sensational youngster who made his debut last year against 20-time grand slam singles champion, Roger Federer came out victorious 6-1, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

The 23-year-old will now face world number 3, Dominic Thiem, who defeated  Jaume Munar 7-6, 6-3 in two sets after the Spanish international retired from the game.
