The Supreme Court has finally ruled in favour of Governor Yahaya Bello as the rightfully elected Governor of Kogi State. The People’s Democratic Party’s candidate, Musa Wada and Natasha Akpoti form the Social Democratic Party had challenged the gubernatorial results that held last year November 2019.

The appellants argued that the margin between the first and second leading candidates was less than the registered voters in the cancelled polling units and also that the said election was voided due to corrupt practices in breach of Provisions of the Electoral Act of 2010 which affected the results of the election and thus required a fresh election.

The Seven-member panel all came to the agreement that the appeal lacked merit and thus dismissed it. The judgement was prepared by Justice Inyang Okoro and read by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji. The verdict upholds the initial judgement of the Court of Appeal in Abuja on July 4 that dismissed the application.
