Rwanda pushes to offer COVID-19 tests at Public Hospitals

Rwanda is looking to extend the number of daily tests from the 5000 to 6500 range by availing COVID-19 test facilities across all government hospitals.

COVID-19 tests are currently being carried out at the National Referral Laboratory, the University Teaching Hospital of Butare and the Rwanda Military hospitals.

The following test centres will now be included Ruhengeri, Gihundwe, Rubavu, Nyagatare, Kirehe, Rwamagana, Kacyiru and Kibagabaga hospitals.

The East-African country is currently employing the use of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology which uses genetic material collected from the patient referred to as the ‘gold standard’. The tests provide results within 30 minutes.
