Renault has withdrawn its appeal against the punishment imposed by Formula One’s governing body on Racing Point, for copying Mercedes’ brake ducts.

Racing Point suffered 15 points deduction and fined 400,000 euros for a breach of the regulations at every race since the 2019/20 F1 season began with the Austrian Grand Prix.

Renault and Ferrari had protested the stewards’ decision, seeking strict punishment against Racing Point. However, Renault has now withdrawn taking the case to FIA’s International Court of Appeal.

In a statement, Renault said the issue was essential to the integrity of Formula One, the current season, and in the future. They further said the constructive and intensive work between FIA, Renault, and other Formula One stakeholders has led to progress in safeguarding the sport’s originality.

Renault maintains that the controversy of the start of this season should be put behind everyone, to focus on the remainder of 2019/2020 championship.

Racing Point, whose 2020 car has a striking resemblance to last year’s Mercedes winning car, was allowed to continue competing without having to redesign the offending parts.
