Manchester City women have completed the signing of United States midfielder Rose Lavelle from OL Reign, from the United States national women’s soccer league NWSL. The 25-year-old, who is city’s third signing joins her national teammate Sam Mewis, who signed for the citizens last week.
She has made 45 appearances for her country, scoring 12 times. She was named the third-best player at the 2019 World Cup, behind teammate Megan Rapinoe and England’s defender Lucy Bronze.
The young midfield maestro was also named in the NWSL Best XI in 2019 while playing for Washington Spirit. Manchester City ladies who were top of the league before games were suspended, narrowly missed out on their second WSL title last season, when points per games method saw second-placed Chelsea clinch the title.
The 2019 world Cup winner Rose Lavelle in an interview said the idea of playing in the Champions League and competing for so many titles played a role in her move to the English club.
The ladies will kick off the 2020-21 season with an away game at newly-promoted Aston Villa during the weekend of 5 to 6 September, after taking on Chelsea in the community shield match in Wembley on Saturday, August 29.
