Scientists discover 10 times more infectious Mutant Coronavirus

The Malaysian Institute of Medical Research has detected a new strain of the Coronavirus that is reportedly 10 times more infectious than the current virus. The mutant virus called D614G has been found in 3 out of 45 cases from a restaurant owner who breached the quarantine lockdown directives.

Malaysia’s Director-General of Health Ministry, Noor Abdullah has also confirmed that the same strain has been found in the Philliphines. The WHO has however maintained that there is no evidence that the strain leads to a more severe ailment.

“People need to be wary and take greater precautions because this strain has now been found in Malaysia. The people’s cooperation is very needed so that we can together break the chain of infection from any mutation.”

There is some level of concern that this new strain could cause a setback in finding an effective vaccine to prevent the virus.
