Jason Wright has been appointed as the new president of the Washington Football Team making him the National Football League’s first black team president. His appointment comes a month after the football team said they would be dropping the team name ‘the Redskins’, as it was offensive to Native Americans.
The 38-year-old, who was a former running back for the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals, becomes the youngest team president in the league and the fourth former NFL player to take up the position.
After retiring in 2011, he attended business school before working at McKinsey & Company, a global strategy, and management consulting firm in Washington DC. The team’s major sponsors had threatened to pull out unless they considered changing the name.
In a statement, the 38-year-old said the transformation of the Team is happening across all aspects of the organization, as they plan to set new standards for the national football league.
