About 11 Kenyan athletes are set to take part in the season-opening diamond league in Monaco on Friday, August 14.

This was made known by officials after the French government agreed to waive the athletes’ visa applications.

The athletes who secured their travel documents on august 13th include Olympic and world 3000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto, the reigning women’s world 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri, and the women’s steeplechase world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech.

The East African country was denied access to European Union countries when the borders were reopened on July 1. Kenya has recorded more than 24,000 coronavirus cases with 399 deaths.
