Racing Point has announced that driver Sergio Perez will make a comeback to the championship, in Spain this weekend after confirming his latest coronavirus test to be negative.

The 30-year-old Mexican had already missed the previous two Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit after testing positive on his return to Mexico to see his mother who had been in hospital following an accident.

The FIA has now confirmed his place at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona. The Spanish Grand Prix will be held without spectators with strict health conditions while teams will operate in separate bubbles.

Racing Point currently occupies the fifth position in the championship standings, despite being docked 15 points by officials after Renault protested against their 2020 car, citing a resemblance to the 2019 Mercedes winning car.

An appeal has been made against the sanctions and is scheduled to hold at the FIA’s International Court of Appeal, later in the year.
