3000 detained in belarus

In response to the almost immediate protest after the landslide victory of President Alexander Lukashenko, 3000 Belarus citizens have been arrested according to RIA news agency.

The election saw Lukashenko leading by 80% in Sunday’s election while his main opposition, Svetlana Tikhanouskaya, a former English teacher secured a meagre 9.9% votes who ran instead of her jailed spouse.

The upheaval began when the opposition refused to accept the results and claims that the result was rigged, so demonstrators went on the streets in Minsk almost immediately as the results were announced all saying the sitting President must step down.

Protests broke out in Grondo, Lida, Minsk, Zhodino, Baranovich, Zhlobin, Pinsk, Kobrin, and Brest
